Scott Turner, School Owner, 6th Degree Black Belt, Vice-President of
Region 119B (Oregon)
Mr. Turner started as most 'karate kids' do. Mr. Turner's father
realized that his son needed to do something productive, yet
re-enforce life skills (respect, discipline, integrity, etc). He needed
something to keep his son focused mentally and physically.
In the beginning of 1986, Mr. Turner joined the Lebanon 'Super
Karate' program. In 1989 he joined the US Army. In 1993, he returned
to Lebanon and quickly resumed being an assistant to Master Lyon
(Mr. Turner's instructor). Mr. Turner then, under the direction of his
instructor, opened the Albany school. In 1997, Master Lyon allowed
Mr. Turner to purchase the school.
Mr. Turner is a certified instructor in ATA as well as Krav Maga. He is
certified in over 13 traditional martial art weapon systems. He is a
licensed firearm instructor and is capable of certifying individuals for
their concealed handgun license (Oregon only)
Ruth McGinnis, Head Instructor, 4th Degree Black
Belt, Certified Instructor.
Ms. McGinnis started at the Albany Karate for Kids
after her brother enrolled. Since day one, she was
a natural at martial arts. As her skills increased, so
did her confidence. Ms. McGinnis was the first
person enrolled into the current Leadership
program that Albany Martial Arts is using. She is a
certified instructor and holds Protech
certifications.
As far as competition, Ms. McGinnis has been in
the top ten for 3 years.
Tyler McQueary, Instructor, 3rd Degree Black Belt, Certified Instructor.
Mr. McQueary began Martial Arts at the young age of 5. He had an
interest in the unique technique and style of Taekwondo. Shortly after
beginning Taekwondo he found that it not only enhanced his physical
fitness, it gave him a rare discipline not many children posessed at
his age. His parents were very supportive of his now disciplined
attitude, and his increasing drive to better himself and other people.
He developed a sense of respect and persistence that lead him to
become an exemplary forms and weapons instructor.
Tyler is a State Champion in Forms, Weapons, and Sparring. He has
been teaching full time at Turner's Teaekwondo Inc. Since 2004.
James Glover, Assistant Instructor, 3rd Degree Black Belt, Specialty
Certified Instructor.
Mr. Glover started martial arts as one of our first 'tiny tigers'. Even at
the age of 5 he took his training very seriously. Mr. Turner always
shares a story of how Mr. Glover showed up to his first testing in a
white button up shirt and a tie! Mr. Glover is the perfect example of a
young person setting goals. He set his goal to be a black belt when
he was 5 years old. At 7, he told Mr. Turner that he would help teach
with him some day.
Mr. Glover has been 'officially' teaching at the Albany school for 5
years. He truly is an asset for our school!
